Kelly's Korner - New Superhero Book Add-ons

Hey, All,

It has been awhile since I've posted any items for you to add to your Superhero Book.   What's a Superhero Book?  It is the place you put all the things you can't find by regular methods and have had to call W L May for info from the manufacturer's.  Or it is for anything that you use regularly and don't want to look it up by normal means.  Click on the link above for all past articles on this subject.

New item:  GE has a new dryer maintenance kit - WE49X21874.  This kit has the WE14M124 top bearing, 2 of the WE1M504 white glides, 2 of the WE1M1067 green glides, a WE09X20441 lower felt seal and the WE12M29 drum belt - big savings over buying these parts individually.

With that, is the maintenance kit for the older GE dryers - WE49X20697 - this has the WE3M26 (now in the process of changing to WE03X20570), 2 each of the WE1M504 and WE1M1067 glides, a WE9M30 lower felt and a WE12M29 belt.

Also, Whirlpool/Maytag is in the process of changing manufacturers of their refrigerator water filters and the old part numbers will be changing also.  I know, if you've had some of these memorized it will be a pain on new part numbers, but changing part numbers are a way of life.

Kelly's Korner - 5 Ways to Help Your Refrigerator Stay Running in Hot Weather

Hey, All,

Well, summer has arrived with a vengeance here in Portland with temps up in the 90's!  For someone raised on the coast with constant wind, fog and mild temperatures, I don't deal well with all this warmth.  Yesterday's thunderstorms were a welcome break.

You know what else doesn't do well in hot weather?  Your refrigerator.  It works extra hard to keep things cool.  And nothing is worse when it's hot out than to have a broken refrigerator.  Here are some helpful hints to help keep it running.

1.  KEEP THE DOOR SHUT!!!  I know it feels really good to open the doors and let that cool air wash over you, but your refrigerator is not an air conditioning unit.  The more the doors are opened and closed the harder it has to work to keep things cold.

2.  When you do have the doors open, do a quick check of your door seals.  Clean them off and check to see there are no holes or tears in them.  Stick a dollar bill between the seal and the cabinet - if it slides out easily, replace the seals.  Call your favorite repair technician to replace these for you, or call W L May with your model number if you think you can do this yourself.

3.  Keep your freezer and refrigerator full.  I know this seems weird, but your fridge doesn't work as hard keeping things cold or frozen if it is full.  Don't stuff it - and if it seems a little empty, fill some jugs with water and keep in there for drinking and cooler ice (freeze jugs of water, ice tea or other favorite beverage and use in your picnic coolers - will keep your food cool and save space with the drinks.)   Cool food and liquids to room temp before putting them in the fridge and make sure they are covered. Replace your filter if you have one, also.

4.  Clean underneath and behind your fridge and the coils.  Dust and dirt will make the compressor run more.  Also check to make sure there plenty of clearance behind it for air circulation. 

5.  If you have a refrigerator in a garage or outbuilding that gets really hot you might think about NOT using it and unplugging it, or find someway to cool that area.  That compressor is already running hot and high temps could make things go kaboom.  And with your neighbors turning on air conditioning units or fans, flucuations in power could happen, so make sure that your refrigerators and freezers are on surge protectors.

If you have any concerns about your refrigerators or freezers, get on the phone now with your appliance repair company.  Summer has them booked solid with refrigeration issues and you want to get any issues taken care of as soon as possible.

Hey, All!

I don't think a day goes by that I don't use my Superhero Book.  And I stress to all my customers that run a parts counter or do their own research to make their own book.  ALL the manufacturers have made changes to their appliances that they don't put on the research, or have created a new part to fix an issue with an existing appliance.  And if it is something that you run into on a regular basis, it definitely saves you time and headache to have this information in something that you can reference easily.


Found this on FB and saved it in my pics to send my son (Happy Birthday Kevin and Grammy!) for their birthday today-kudo's to the maker of this cake-it rocks!

Tired of ordering all the separate pieces needed to install a dishwasher?  We now have a dishwasher install kit - DWK-6572DW - and it contains the following parts:

Hey, All!

We've added some new accessory items that you may need, want or like.

The first is the Every Drop portable water filter by Whirlpool.  This is a portable water filter that you can stick in a backpack, car or camping stuff that comes in its own plastic holder.  It filters  hard, soft, warm and cold water.  One filter has a 60 gallon capacity and replaces 450 plastic water bottles per filter.  They come in two colours and are $22.99 retail and the replacement filter is $13.99:

Blue:  DBWL2SM1
White:  DWWL2SM1
Replacement Filter:  DWWC2S1

Because of the unique design of this filter, it will fit a water bottle, cup, glass or pitcher and filters water through way faster that anything else I've seen.  No need to hook up to your faucets in any way, and you can have one sitting next to every faucet in your house.  Makes a great gift, too!

A couple of other items you may find useful:

GE dishwasher side mounting kit - WX13X10001 - in case you have a countertop that you can't drill into to anchor your dishwasher.

Another dishwasher mounting kit - L304458800 - for use on those solid surface counters.  These have a super sticky backing that you can stick to the underside of your counter and then anchor your dishwasher.  We've used them here on our display models and they don't budge.
