Kelly's Korner - New Superhero Book Add-ons

Hey, All,

It has been awhile since I've posted any items for you to add to your Superhero Book.   What's a Superhero Book?  It is the place you put all the things you can't find by regular methods and have had to call W L May for info from the manufacturer's.  Or it is for anything that you use regularly and don't want to look it up by normal means.  Click on the link above for all past articles on this subject.

New item:  GE has a new dryer maintenance kit - WE49X21874.  This kit has the WE14M124 top bearing, 2 of the WE1M504 white glides, 2 of the WE1M1067 green glides, a WE09X20441 lower felt seal and the WE12M29 drum belt - big savings over buying these parts individually.

With that, is the maintenance kit for the older GE dryers - WE49X20697 - this has the WE3M26 (now in the process of changing to WE03X20570), 2 each of the WE1M504 and WE1M1067 glides, a WE9M30 lower felt and a WE12M29 belt.

Also, Whirlpool/Maytag is in the process of changing manufacturers of their refrigerator water filters and the old part numbers will be changing also.  I know, if you've had some of these memorized it will be a pain on new part numbers, but changing part numbers are a way of life.

Kelly's Korner - Super Hero Book Revisited

Hey, All,

As I mentioned before, I have been training some new employees and I have stressed to them the importance of them starting their own Superhero Book.  They have been amazed as to the answers I can pull out of it when they have been beating their heads looking all over for something that can't be found by normal methods.

So I thought I'd go back and go from the beginning.  Now some of you who are more tech savvy could put all this on a program, but I am old school and I like my paper.

Grab a 3-ring binder (decorate any which way you want) and get some dividers and label them according to the manufacturers you deal with:  Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Bosch, LG, etc.  I would put a blank sheet or two of paper for those little things that you really don't need a print out of and a divider for miscellaneous stuff.

Now, anytime you have something that comes along that you can't find by conventional means, STICK IT IN YOUR BOOK!!!!  Research on it was bad enough the first time, right?, so you definately do not want to do it a second time, and you will be kicking yourself from here to breakfast for not having it.  You can put in service bulletins, installation instructions, pictures printed off the internet (make notes on these so you can remember the why and whatfor), ANYTHING that cannot be found by conventional means.  If you have to call a manufacturer, your distributor, or if a tech comes across something that you may need in the future, put it in there.  Way better to have too much information that not enough, right?

Kelly's Korner - Two more items for your Superhero Book

Hope all you moms out there had a great Mother's Day!  I sure did!


My sister, Barbara, and her kids, Samantha and James - it's not only Mother's Day for her but her birthday!  Super mom and sister!



Not much happening on the appliance front at the moment so I thought I would go through my Super Hero Book and share a couple more things.

First one, Electrolux/Frigidaire has an icemaker in some of their refrigerators that are decidedly different than any others I've every seen.  I've had several calls looking for complete replacements on them and there is no such beast.  BUT, they have come out with a repair kit - 5303918495 - that replaces the main control board, bail arm and motor, ice mold and a bunch of other little parts that seem to be the main culprits in the breakdown of this icemaker.

Sometimes, when looking for the  control "jazz" board on some Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana refrigerators, the research will give you a part number of 12002756.  This is not only the board but a bunch of insulation and a new evaporator fan motor and blade.  Now if all you need is the board, the current number for that is 12784415, although there is even a newer version of this board - W10503278.

I hope you are keeping up on your Superhero Book - mine has been a lifesaver more times than I can count and every one of my customer has benefitted from it.  Be a Superhero to your customers, too!

Kelly's Korner - Superhero Book add's

I don't think a day goes by that I don't use my Superhero Book.  And I stress to all my customers that run a parts counter or do their own research to make their own book.  ALL the manufacturers have made changes to their appliances that they don't put on the research, or have created a new part to fix an issue with an existing appliance.  And if it is something that you run into on a regular basis, it definitely saves you time and headache to have this information in something that you can reference easily.


Found this on FB and saved it in my pics to send my son (Happy Birthday Kevin and Grammy!) for their birthday today-kudo's to the maker of this cake-it rocks!

Tired of ordering all the separate pieces needed to install a dishwasher?  We now have a dishwasher install kit - DWK-6572DW - and it contains the following parts:

Kelly's Korner - Education

Hey, All,

We have all been in the position of learning something new - tying your shoes, cooking, mathematics, job duties, etc. -  and being told how to do it by someone else - parent, teacher, supervisor, etc.  Think back to who your favorite and least favorite teacher was.  Why are they your favorite or not?

Learning is something that happens every day, every hour, and how you retain that knowledge and use it depends alot on the person teaching you.  Have you ever been put in a position of starting a new task of some kind and just left to figure it out on your own?  How did that make you feel?  Or have you been paired with someone that explained every step, patiently answered your questions - even the same ones over and over - and didn't let you fly free until you were totally comfortable with what you were doing.  Which method do you prefer?

Here at W L May, we not only help to train new employees, but help our customers in learning more about the appliance industry.  One of the things that is best about this job is that  something new is learned every day.  And we are more than happy to pass on that knowledge.  This is one of the reasons I keep my Superhero Book. I may not have to remember detail of what I have dealt with, but remembering that I have that info in my Book is priceless.  The appliance business is ever-changing and we here at W L May do our best - not only keeping up with the new stuff - but remembering things about the older appliances out there, also.  And we are happy to share that knowledge with you.

Kelly's Korner - Parts Detective

Hey, All,

I love mysteries! And the wonderful part about my job is I get to solve mysteries everyday!  I have often thought about dressing up as Sherlock Holmes for Halloween, with the deerstalker cap and Meershum pipe with assorted parts and microfiche hanging out of my pockets.

One of the advantages to having a relationship with your parts supplier is that often times they have avenues of research that are not available to you, or that you just haven't thought of.  We here at W L May maintain good relations with the manufacturers that we stock parts for and are able to call/email them with issues we run into.

Also, we maintain microfiche files (this was a method of data storage before computers for you youngsters out there!) and alot of the older appliances that won't come up on your computer research sites we have this backup to go to.  Not to say we'll have the parts on some of this older stuff but I am continuely suprised at what comes up sometimes.  And not to mention all the old timers around here that have all kinds of miscellaneous stuff in their brains.

So if you come across something that has you stumped, give us here at W L May a call - we'll do our darndest to find an answer for you.  Plus it may be something that you can add to your Superhero Book!

KELLY'S KORNER - MORE SUPERHERO BOOK

Hey, All!

Hope summer is being good to all of you - it's been really hot here (upper 90's) and us Pacific Northwesterners are just not built for it - that's why we live where we do!  My sympathies to you all in hotter areas!

I just can not stress how important and helpful it is to you to have some kind of Superhero Book - whether paper or on your computer - not a day goes by that I don't use mine.  And the gratitude of your boss, co-workers and customers is beyond price - good job security, too!  lol.

Some things I added this week were in-line fuses for Kitchenaid ovens - 4456654 & 4451042, clips that go on the crisper rails for an Electrolux refrigerator - the rails are 240579807 and the clips you can get separately, 241993701.  Honey-Sriracha glazed buffalo wings...wait a minute!  How did that get in there?!?

Anything that you can't find by conventional means needs to go in your Book - believe me, you will kick yourself if you don't and have to go through that torturous research route a second time!

Kelly's Korner - Superhero Book

Hey, All!

So how are you all doing on your Superhero Book?  Are you adding to it when you find something that you've never seen before?  It is real easy to think that you'll do it later, but I find that if I don't write it down or print it out now, it doesn't get done, then I kick myself when I need it later.  Don't procrastinate!

This came to mind the other day when I was looking for a kit that I KNOW Whirlpool puts out for refrigerator shelf support repair (4388540) and I couldn't find it because I HAD NOT WRITTEN IT DOWN!!!  I only like doing things twice if they are fun - finding information twice because of my laziness is not fun.

Of course, on the opposite side, a tech called me looking for a dispenser heater kit for a GE refrigerator, and before he could even finish explaining what he needed, I had the part number (WR49X10173) because I HAD WRITTEN IT DOWN!!!  Blew him away and I sat here and giggled.

There are sooo many things that the manufacturers come up with AFTER the appliances are in a consumer's home to fix issues that come up.  And they are usually not on whatever research material you are looking at.  We here at W L May are really good at ferreting out this information, so don't hesitate to give us a holler to find what you need.
